Tasting Notes

A typically rich and robust highland style dram we thought. Dense fabrics, hessians, dunnage must and white stone fruits appeared on the nose first. Then aniseed, putty, grapefruit piths and butterbeans with olive oil and grape must. Superbly rich and slightly funky. With water we got hot mustard oil drizzled on an onion bhaji, then brittle waxes, soot, pine cones and oily steel wool. The neat palate opened with bitter heather ales, soft waxes, pipe tobacco, new leather and white pepper. Water brought out some warming notes of wintergreen, curry powder, English mustard and spiced cranachan.
