A funny nose that invoked smoked limes, hoppy ales, yeast extract and rain on gravel. We also noted smoked coconut milk, sooty bananas, damp hay and TCP with mineral oil. Water brought suggestions of smoked mackerel, chalky limestone, freshly kilned malt, heather beer and mentholated chewing gum. The palate was initially fresh with abundant petrichor and warm, damp ferns. Pine wood, smoked duck, brown apples, camphor and the sweetness of buttermilk. Reduction brought hot smoked salmon, lemons charring on a BBQ and fruity bath bombs. Once again this impression of smoked limes and wood coals. Matured for 8 years in a bourbon barrel, before transfer to an ex-Islay whisky barrel that previously matured 33.137.
