The Society’s run of awards success continues with a best-ever result in the Spirits Business Scotch Whisky Masters competition 2023.
Awards season is well and truly upon us and we’re delighted to announce that we’ve brought home a delightful haul of seven medals from The Scotch Whisky Masters 2023. That’s the Society’s best-ever result in this competition, made up of five Masters medals, one Gold and one Silver. The Scotch Whisky Masters medals bring The Society’s total number of awards since 2018 to 290.

The Scotch Malt Whisky Society’s award-winning streak of success continues, with a record haul of five Gold medals in the International Spirits Challenge (ISC), along with one Silver.
The International Spirits Challenge medals bring the Society’s total number of awards since 2018 to 297.
The Scotch Malt Whisky Society has marked its 40th anniversary by setting a GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ title for the most participants in an online whisky tasting event.
On Saturday, 30 September, 447 of our members in more than 15 countries gathered online for the world record tasting attempt at our newly refurbished spiritual home, The Vaults in Leith. Overseen by an adjudicator from Guinness World Records, the whisky tasting started at 2pm BST with members around the world tasting the same three drams of whisky simultaneously.
The news is out! The Scotch Malt Whisky Society is delighted to have brought home five medals from the 2023 Tokyo Whisky & Spirits Competition (TWSC) in Japan.
The haul includes three Superior Gold, one Gold and one Silver awards. One of those Superior Gold medals went to the Society’s Vaults Collection bottling, Cask No. 24.169: Bonkers for Conkers.
This is the fifth year of the competition, which had 918 entries in the whisky and sochu categories, making it the largest competition of its kind in Asia.
It’s good news from San Francisco where the Society has brought home a haul of accolades from this year’s San Francisco World Spirits Competition (SFWSC). The team of expert judges have awarded the Society 10 medals, which includes four Double Golds, five Gold Medals and one Silver Medal.
This brings the Society’s total awards count to 269 since 2018.
A selection of Scotch whiskies have brought a haul of eight medals in this year’s International Wine and Spirits Competition.
The expert judges of the International Wine and Spirits Competition (IWSC) have awarded a haul of medals to The Scotch Malt Whisky Society in this year’s competition, with one ‘Gold Outstanding’ award, two Golds and five Silvers.
JG Thomson, the small batch spirits specialist launched by The Scotch Malt Whisky Society’s parent company, Artisanal Spirits, also made an impressive mark in the IWSC awards.
JG Thomson scored three Silver awards for each of its Sweet, Rich and Smoky blended malts.
The category of Scotch whisky in this year’s IWSC Spirits Awards were overseen by master distiller Richard Paterson, with a panel made up of world-renowned experts from across the global spirits trade. Many judges are also distillers themselves, providing a unique opportunity for independent peer feedback.
